History
R. E. Thompson Intermediate School was founded in 1959 and sits on 17.5 acres of land. The Superintendent that purchased the land to build the school was Mr. Robert Earl Thompson. Over the years R.E. Thompson has had different grade configurations. The school was a 1st - 6th grade, a 4th and 5th grade, and in its current operation, we have 3rd through 5th grade. Since 1959 R.E.T. has had two additions to the school. The Third Grade wing and the Library and Media Lab serve 3rd through 5th grade students in the Tuscumbia City School System.
Beginning in 3rd grade, students will transition to R.E. Thompson Intermediate School. Students will be afforded the opportunity to continue to explore and learn the various skills that will make them successful later in life. R.E. Thompson offers a rich curriculum with a low teacher to student ratio. Students are afforded the opportunity to have specialized instruction through Special Education services, art and music classes, computer classes, and the Gifted Program along with a reading interventionist and a math interventionist. At R.E.T., there is something for each and every student.
As an Intermediate school, our goal is to prepare our students for middle school academically, socially, and emotionally. We strive to challenge the students at their levels while consistently celebrating them and their achievements. We offer many programs and activities through the year, from our Accelerated Reader program to track/running activities, plays, chorus/show choir, robotics teams, and much, much more. Call or come by for a tour of this wonderful school, we would love to show you how we R.O.A.R. at R.E.T.!
